But what does that number actually say? Does more automatically mean better light? And how many lumens do you really need for your vehicle?   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this blog, we explain what lumens are, why they&#8217;re important, and what to look for when choosing the right lighting. This makes it easier to make the right choice without just staring blindly at the highest number of lumens. <\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-wat-is-lumen\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are lumens?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lumens (lm) indicate how much visible light a lamp produces. The higher the number of lumens, the more light a lamp emits. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet this doesn&#8217;t say everything about a lamp&#8217;s performance. The light beam, reflector, lens technology, and color temperature also determine how much light actually ends up on the road. <\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do more lumens always mean better light?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A lamp with more lumens often seems more powerful on paper, but that doesn&#8217;t automatically mean you can see further or better. The way the light is distributed plays a major role. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A well-designed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alldayled.com\/en\/product-category\/spotlights\/led-bar\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.alldayled.com\/nl\/product-categorie\/verstralers\/led-bar\/\">LED bar<\/a> with slightly fewer lumens can perform better in practice than a lamp with a higher number, simply because the light is focused more efficiently.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s why it&#8217;s wise to look not only at the number of lumens but also at other properties of the lamp.<\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-theoretische-en-effectieve-lumen\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Theoretical and effective lumens<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alldayled.com\/en\/shop\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.alldayled.com\/nl\/winkel\/\">LED lighting<\/a>, you sometimes come across two different lumen values:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Theoretical lumens<\/strong>: the maximum light output that the LED&#8217;s can deliver under ideal conditions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Effective lumens<\/strong>: the actual light output you can expect during use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to heat, electronics, and optics, the effective light output is almost always lower than the theoretical value. Therefore, always check which value a manufacturer lists. <\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How many lumens do you need?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That depends on the application. The ideal light output varies per vehicle and application. <\/em><\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Look beyond just lumens<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When choosing lighting, several properties are important.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, also pay attention to:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the quality of the light pattern;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the color temperature (Kelvin);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alldayled.com\/en\/ip-waarden-uitgelegd-wat-betekenen-ze\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.alldayled.com\/nl\/ip-waarden-uitgelegd-wat-betekenen-ze\/\">IP rating<\/a>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alldayled.com\/en\/ece-regelgeving-op-een-rij\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.alldayled.com\/nl\/ece-regelgeving-op-een-rij\/\">ECE approval<\/a>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the quality of the housing and electronics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s precisely the combination of these properties that determines how well a lamp performs in practice.<\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our experience<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At All Day Led, we notice that many customers look at the number of lumens first.
